BBFC

Who are the BBFC?
The BBFC (The British Board of Film Classification) is an independent body that classifies films on their content.

The different ratings include:

U.

PG.

12.

15.

18.

R18.

Factors that determine the classification of films and put them into these categories are:
  • Drugs abuse
  • Sex
  • Nudity
  • Violence
  • Gore
  • Language
The context in which an issue (such as sex, language, or violence) is presented is central to the question of it's acceptability. When considering context, the following facts, amongst others, may be taken into account:
  • The expectations of the public in general ad=n the work's audience in particular.
  • The work's genre. For example, a realistic or contemporary approach may intensify the effect. By contrast a historical or fantasy setting, or comic presentation, may soften the effect.
  • The manner in which an issue is presented. For example, language used aggressively may may be dealt with more stringently than the same terms used in a comic way.
  • The apparent intention of the film maker, as reflected in its effect. For example, whether the work is intended to be educated.
How would you classify your film and why?
Our film will be classified at a 15, this is because there is no huge amounts of swearing, but there is blood and gore which can offend some people.

How have similar films been classified by the BBFC?
Similar films to ours have been classified at similar levels. This helped us with classifying our film, thy have mainly been labelled a 15, with some exceptions when there is more blood/gore or excesive swearing.

Specific Films
Films with the same include, Paranormal Activity, and Insidious. There are not exactly the same theme because are film is quite unique but they are relatively similar on their content ratings. These films are rated as a 15.
